Lavender Essential Oil Uses and Benefits
Lavender Essential Oil has grown in popularity and is one of the most useful and versatile oils. Lavender is known for its pleasant floral scent – people often use lavender essential oil as a perfume and body spray.
Some other uses of Lavender Oil are:
Calming
Lavender is traditionally famous for its soothing aroma. For those of you who suffer from sleep disorder or insomnia, the use of Lavender essential oil may help you reach a state of calm and induce a restful sleep.
Sprinkle some Lavender essential oil on a pillow or inhale it directly from the bottle before going to bed. A handful of Epsom salts and a few drops of Lavender oil in a warm bath before going to bed may also help ease insomnia and help relieve sore and aching muscles.
For deep relaxation, a gentle massage may be just what you need. Mix 3-5 drops of Lavender essential oil into 1 tablespoon of carrier oil, then massage lovingly into skin (either alone or with another). Carrier Oils are oils that are used to dilute essential oils before being applied to the face, body or hair. Some examples of carrier oil include Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil and Sesame Oil.
Healing
Lavender is commonly associated with burns and healing of skin. This could be due to the Linalool component of the oil – a proven analgesic (pain-reliever) teamed with the anti-microbial action which can prevent infection. Anecdotal evidence points to Lavender as a useful remedy for burns, sunburns and bee stings.
Mix Lavender Essential Oil with a carrier oil of your choice then rub it onto the affected area (it is very important not to apply to broken skin). Lavender Essential Oil is thought to make your skin heal faster and it may even help prevent scarring.
