Lavender oil can lose its freshness over time and interact with the formula as well as becoming slightly more irritating due to changes in the oil chemistry.
Microencapsulation solves this problem by encapsulating lavender oil in a thin shell. Fresh, fragrant lavender oil is released upon rubbing with the skin.
Microencapsulation can also be helpful for building a product with a multi-layer fragrance as the initial in-pack smell will differ from the smell after rubbing into the skin. This can provide the product with a novelty factor but can also be useful for products where you want to delay the release of the fragrance until the product is fully rubbed in.
