Wintergreen ( Premium Commercial )

PC stands for Premium Commercial, which are words the company producing the oil use to describe it.  It may also be called “Nature Identical” or “Natural Blend”.  It means that the Cosmetic grade essential oils are made by mixing natural isolates from therapeutic grade essential oils. The resulting oil is also natural but is made cheaper by using isolates from cheaper plants. 

Cosmetic essential oils are therefore cheaper and are 100% natural but some people don’t trust them to have therapeutic properties.

INCI name: Methyl  Salicylate

Description: Wintergreen is a small evergreen herb which grows up to 15cm (6 in) high with slender stems, leathery serrated leaves, drooping white flowers followed by fleshy scarlet berries. But this oil is a synthetic version of this natural oil. The natural oil is 8 times more expensive therefore a commercial grade has been produced to simulate the natural oil.

Colour: Clear to Pale Yellow

Common Uses: Wintergreen has a history of use as a pain reliever. It is also believed to increase the speed of healing for skin disorders, and when added to lotions, acts as a natural moisturizer.

Blends well with: Wintergreen blends well with Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, Marjoram Sweet, Lavender, Birch and Vanilla.

Aromatic Scent: Wintergreen has a smell similar to that of Liniment.

History: Wintergreen and Sweet Birch oil are both nearly identical in chemical composition and aroma; similarly, both have been used in traditional folk remedies. This tradition has led to the discovery of Methyl Salicylate, its main ingredient, as a pain reliever. Wintergreen is a traditional native North American remedy, used for aches and pains and to help breathing while hunting or carrying heavy loads.
